Egypt’s southern capital, Aswan, is 80 miles south of Luxor and is a peaceful and comparatively small resort. Pleasantly warm in winter and more bearable than
elsewhere in summer, Aswan has a more relaxed atmosphere yet also
offers plenty of historical interest. Ancient sites such as the
Temple of Philae and the unfinished obelisk are complimented by
the modern Aswan High Dam. The breathtaking temples of Abu Simbel
are accessible from Aswan, and well worth the effort. Alternatively,
stroll through the town and take in the beauty of the Nile.
