Location: 30km south of Hurghada, between Hurghada and Safaga
Transfer time: Approximately 45 minutes from Hurghada airport
Medical: Nearest recompression chamber / medical facilities are the Hypermed Baromedical (25km) and Nile Hospioital (30km), both located in Hurghada.
Diving in Makadi Bay
- Makadi Bay is perfectly positioned for diving the whole area between northern Hurghada
and southern Safaga.
- Wonderful dive sides with coral gardens, walls full of gorgonian fans and famous dive sites like Panorama reef, Abu Kafan or the wreck of the Salem Express await.
- Extra Divers offers in excess of 60 different dive sites, some reachable by boat in just 5 minutes with those furthest away taking up to 3 hours.
Diving Highlights
Abu Hashish Lagoon
A wonderful coral garden home to everything the Red Sea has to offer. Swim around the pinnacles inside the lagoon or venture out through a narrow channel to a shelf stretching from the main reef at 8 metres out to the drop off at 20-25 metres. Here there is a good chance to spot octopus turtles and tuna.
Panorama Reef
One of the highlights of the area is this huge coral formation with walls dropping to over 200m. You will find numerous grottos and overhangs, Gorgonians and soft corals, Jacks, Barracuda, Dolphins, White tip, Grey Reef and Silver tip Sharks. Rare encounters with Manta rays, Oceanic white tip sharks, Hammerhead Sharks are also possible.
Salem Express
A famous passenger ferry wreck dive. The 100m boat is a dramatic yet eerie dive, and a reminder of the destructive and regenerative powers of the sea. Around 500 people perished in one of the worst marine tragedies of all time, when she hit the reef during a stormy night and sunk rapidly. She is now home to thriving underwater life, which includes a resident frogfish.

Many different kinds of interesting marine life including shrimp, frogfish, stonefish, ghostpipefish, Napoleon wrasse, dolphins, manta & eagle rays and turtles.
