Diving in the Red Sea
The Red Sea is one of the world's best dive sites, and is becoming an increasingly popular destination for avid divers and first time divers alike, attracted by the thousands of kilometres of Red Sea coastline blessed with extensive reef formations and islands, and the underwater scenery, rich with coral-covered walls and beautiful gardens. Out of the water, the Red Sea's year-round good weather, fine hotels, historical sites and range of desert based activities such as quad biking and camel trekking ensure that you won't be bored on dry land either.

What will I see?
Outstanding underwater visibility gives you the opportunity to observe (and photograph) over 400 varieties of coral and 1,500 species of fish, turtle and shark, including whale sharks, dolphins and turtles. Check individual resort pages to see which varieties of underwater life you can expect to see, and when.

When should I go?
The comparatively warm waters of the Red Sea make it suitable for diving all year round. It does get chillier in winter months, when a full 5mm wetsuit is recommended, but these months also tend to be quieter and therefore more peaceful and relaxed. Spring and summer see an increased variety of fish and underwater mammal life, and are the busiest times of the year, when the waters are at their warmest. Shoulder seasons - May, June, September and October - often represent great value for money and are quieter than the summer months but still very warm.

What about non-divers?
If your friends or family can't be persuaded to join you diving, don't worry - they won't be missing out on all the fun. They can still appreciate the wonderful Red Sea and its inhabitants from the beach, on a snorkelling or boat trip or a kite-surfing experience. Not to mention all the options available on dry land - the Red Sea region makes fantastic base for exploring some of the world's most famous historic sites in Egypt, Jordan and Israel and is home to an array of activities that include desert jeep safaris, camel treks and quad biking. Many of the hotels feature spas and massage facilities for a spot of pampering, and then there's the pool, the beach and the famous Egyptian sun.
