The Diving: Highlights

Northern Red Sea
Departing from either Sharm or Hurghada.
Northern itineraries take in a selection of sites in this region including Ras Mohamed and the Straits of Tiran. This area is also world famous for its wrecks. A highlight is the Thistlegorm, whilst the ship's graveyard at Abu Nuhas has claimed ships such as the Carnatic and Giannis D. Wreck enthusiasts may also get the opportunity to visit the mysterious wreck of the Rosalie Moller and the Dunraven.

Southern Red Sea
Departing from Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Port Ghalib or Hamata.

Safaga Area
The area around Safaga has some great reef diving, as well as the fanous wreck of the Salem Express. The 100m ferry boat is a dramatic yet eerie dive. Around 500 people perished in one of the worst marine tragedies of all times when she hit the reef during a stormy night and sunk rapidly. She is now home to thriving underwater life, which includes a resident frogfish. Panorama Reef, one of the largest reefs in Safaga, is one of the highlights of the area.

Elphinstone Reef
Elphinstone's sheer walls, arches and caves covered in soft corals make it an ideal site to see the larger Pelagic marine life.

The Brothers
The two tiny isolated islands known as The Brothers are the pinnacles of two undersea mountains, located 33 miles north east of El Quseir. They have a reputation for challenging diving and attract a diverse array of marine species and large Pelagics.

Big Brother Island has a fringing reef with a sheer plunge to exceptional depths. Large tuna, jacks and snappers cruise in the blue, accompanied by occasional hammerheads, silvertips, silky and oceanic white tip sharks and mantas. Even the rare thresher shark can be spotted here. For the wreck diver, the Aida lies with her stern at about 40m. Close by is the wreck of the Numidia, sunk over 100 years ago in 1901 and covered in an amazing array of hard and soft corals. She has been described as one of the most beautiful shipwrecks in the world.

Little Brother is repute to be one of the most scenic dives in the Red Sea. The drop off is over 40m but the walls are covered in sponges, anemones, soft corals and black coral. Some of the huge gorgonian fan corals are more than 3m high. There are caves, holes and overhangs in the shallow part of the reef. Sightings of the grey reef shark are almost guaranteed on the north and south plateau of Little Brother.

Daedalus Reef
Daedalus Reef is a large, oval reef with mountainous, pristine, hard coral formations and deep walls teeming with life. There is a strong chance of spotting schooling hammerheads and grey reef sharks.

Deep South
The Deep South is the vast area south of Marsa Alam down to the Sudan border. There are too many dive sites to count and among them are some of the best in the world.

Fury Shoals
Fury Shoals is an area where 27 reefs lie close to each other, many with dramatic sheer walls plunging to over 40m. Each dive will take you through a maze of passageways, caves, coral gardens and lagoons with the possibility of sighting turtles, huge schools of jack and tuna, white tip reef, oceanic white tip and silky sharks.

St Johns
St Johns is a vast collection of small reefs offering some of the most remote and rewarding diving in the Red Sea. Here you will find giant gorgonians, black corals, schools of snapper, butterfly fish and barracudas. Manta rays, grey reef, silvertip and schools of hammerhead sharks may also be found.
