Experience 5000 years of history
all in a single day. Our 1 day tour to Jerusalem begins with an early drive through the Arava Valley and Negev Desert with
a stop at the lowest point on earth for a float in the Dead Sea.

gives way to rolling green hills, we enter the Eternal City
and drive to the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view over
the Old City and City of King David. We then descend via the Garden
of Gethsemane and the Kidron Valley to the Old City, walking along
the cobblestone streets to the Western Wall – Judaism’s
holiest site.
Trace Jesus’ last journey along the Via Dolorosa
to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and visit the Room of the
Last Supper, the Roman Cardo and drive through the new part of
the city, passing by the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament),

Living in the Desert
In the summer of 1909, a handful of young men and women left the Kinneret Agricultural Training Farm, heading across the mouth of the swampy Jordan River to establish what became one of the most interesting social experiments in farm settlement -a Kibbutz.
Today, almost a century later, over 250 kibbutzim exist across Israel, transforming the nation’s landscape and creating a unique democratic way of life.
Depart Eilat driving north along the Rift Valley to Kibbutz Yotvata, the first kibbutz established in the Arava, which began as a military outpost in 1951. Retrace the path of daring, hard work and determination that transformed the surrounding desert into fruitful and profitable farm land, with a kibbutz member explaining the history and present day kibbutz life as you walk along its paths.
Visit the sophisticated dairy operation - the symbol of Yotvata’s success, and the kibbutz fields, which show how mechanisation enables kibbutz members to retain the original value of ’working the land’, whilst adapting and experimenting to progress in agriculture. Return to Eilat by early afternoon.

St Catherine's Monastery
Moses travelled for 40 years with the Children of Israel
through the Sinai desert, receiving the Ten Commandments
on the way. Nearly 2000 years later, a monastery was built near
the Chapel of the Burning Bush at the foot of Mount Sinai, and
today still houses the art and icons which were protected from
Islamic fury by a letter from the prophet Mohammed.
The 1 day tour crosses into
the Sinai Desert at Taba and continues by Pharaoh’s Island
and The Fjord before driving through amazing
desert scenery, passing small Bedouin tents and villages, to the
Monastery of Santa Katarina. Here, we see the chapel and
famous Chamber of the Skulls, with explanations from our guide.
During the trip back to Eilat, stop at Nuweiba on the Sinai shore, for lunch and an opportunity to swim before returning late afternoon. |
