Built on a series of lagoons and islands, the beautiful resort of El Gouna has been likened to 'Venice of the Red Sea', and has been carefully constructed to complement the setting of desert, mountain and Red Sea in which it is based. El Gouna is about 30 minutes north of Hurghada, the area's biggest resort.

About the South Coast Area
Across the Red Sea, east of the Sinai Peninsula, are a number of resorts on mainland Egypt. These include Hurghada, El Gouna, El Quseir, Abu Soma and Soma Bay and Marsa Alam. The area is characterised by sandy beaches and ideal conditions for a variety of watersports, including a year-round sea breeze that also makes these resorts slightly cooler in high summer than their sister Red Sea resorts on the Sinai.
