27 April 2006
Following the incidents in Dahab on Monday evening, we are pleased to
confirm that none of our guests in resort, or Longwood or Highway staff,
were amongst the casualties.
Our first priority is our customers, and each guest staying with us in Dahab
has been contacted and offered the opportunity to curtail their holiday or
transfer to another resort. To date, none of our guests have taken up
either of these options, and all have continued with their holiday in the resort.
As an organisation we are deeply saddened and shocked by the events of
yesterday and offer our sympathy to the family and friends of those
involved in the incidents, of all nationalities.
“ Dahab is a beautiful resort with a genuine community feel, and anyone
who has visited the resort will be shocked by this tragic event.” said Rafi Caplin,
Longwood Holidays MD “We have been offering holidays to Egypt and the Sinai
for many years, and our colleagues in Egypt are amongst the most welcoming and
hardworking in the world. Tourism plays such a vital part in the local and national
economy that an event like this can be catastrophic for the locals – which is why
the support of operators and travel agents at this time is essential.”
The FCO advice on travel to Egypt has not changed, and Longwood Holiday’s holiday
programme has not been affected.
FCO have set up their emergency response unit on 020 7008 0000.
